You must not have a Perkins in your Bene; 3k RPM is way to fast for them. The Perkins in my Bene would self-destruct at that speed, but it may work for a Yanmar. As for the throttle, I'd say the cable needs some adjustment, or maybe even a new cable if the cable is too short and the adjustment is already at its maximum. Check to see if the cable mounts are still in place; they might be letting the cable sag under weight and vibration.

Same Problem

The sounds like the problem I have with my Beneteau 323. It has a Yanmar 2GM20 with a single lever control. It seems like there is a spring loaded detent at about 1900 RPM. When the throttle is pushed beyond that point it just springs back to 1900. I have no idea whose throttle control this is, but I would like to find out if there is a schematic of it somewhere before I take it apart to find out how it works. I my case I don't think its a cable adjustment, but it might be.

Same Problem 2

We've experienced the same problem with our 1996 321 and it's a bother. We have not tried to resolve the problem through a cable adjustment but have used two trial and error approaches, both of which seem to work to varying degrees: (1) use an object to wedge between the throttle lever and the hull (seat back) or (2) push the throttle lever to a position to yield an rpm above 3000 and then back off-this approach may take several trials but it will generally work if you're patient and persistent. Good luck!
