I have a 84' Hunter 34. Used to be that when I advanced the throttle it held "more or less" at whatever RPM setting I chose. Now it simply slides back to idle unless I continue to physically hold it in position. Tiring on the thumb. I think a little rubber grommet provided the friction to hold it in position and wore out. Any ideas of where to get a replacement? Or how to make a fix? Thanks.

Don't bother with the archives, this is short.

Under the compass you will see the inner workings of the levers. Just in front of the throttle lever, is a boss with a recessed set screw. I think it's metric. It is allen head, so put away your screw driver. It might also be hidden by dirt. It has a molded nylon face, that touches the throttle shaft. The nylon prevents galling. Just snug up the screw. See, faster than researching the archives.

Too technical!

Gee Fred all those technical words..."boss, metric, allen, galling"... how is anyone to understand what you're talking about?*666

Oops, sorry Marc

let me clarify; Under the round floating thingy is the hook-ups for the speed-up stuff. The squeezy holder is on top of the right shiney stiff stuff. It has a lot of pointy edges on its' holes. You can't use a stiff, hard, pointy tool. You can jam something in it that is the same shape. Make it go down and press on the shiney thing. It's neat 'cuz it's soft and won't hurt the shine. How's that Marc? Did I do gooder? :)

Too funny Fred!

Glad you understood where I was coming from *5 ! Just shows HOW learning the terminology can make things so much clearer. There are reasons that specific language has been developed. I enjoy your posts!

and if that does not work.......

Dale: If that does not work (it did not work on my H'31 for very long), try a J clamp. These are easy to install and prevent you from having to R/R the compass every couple of weeks/months. http://www.sailboatowners.com/upload/display.tpl?folder=Dion73064768600&fno=17
