throttle gear shift split

Hello All,

My Albin still has the Volvo Penta with the conmbined throttle
lever/gear shift. Due to a somewhat sticky throttle and somewhat
unresponsive prop (which might be a design issue) this is not easy to
handle when docking. I am thinking of splitting the throttle
mechanism from the gears and am wondering if anyone has some tips.

Regards,

Neil

Hi Neil

This ha sbeen done many times. Easy to do. Use a choke cable or similar with
a handle for the throttle and keep the pitch of the prop control on the
existing lever. Takes abit of getting used to but certainly gives you more
control. I can't promise you will be able to steer your Vega any better as
the prop is behind the rudder, offset and a long keel....... Practise makes
perfect with handling teh Vega in close quarters.

Cheers
