I have an older Hunter 35.5 that has separate throttle and gear levers. The throttle is mounted on the starboard side of the wheel pedestal and the gear lever at the back but extended out from the pedestal to the port side. I find this a very annoying setup due to the fact when attempting to enter my slip, even at not much more than an idle, I almost require three hands - one for the throttle, one for the gear lever, and the third to steer!! And because the wheel is so big I either have to do all this stretching over it or reaching between the spokes of the wheel. My previous sailboat had a single throttle/gear lever which worked like a charm - one hand on the lever and one on the wheel. My question is - has anyone converted this type of setup to a one lever system? If so I would appreciate you sharing your experience as to the cost, problems, and product.
