My throttle cable snapped at the binnacle on my 1994 Hunter 35.5. I realize that the top portion of binnacle is removeable which would give me more room to work but alas the screws (not bolts) are seized and they are not coming loose without stripping the heads off the screws. I cannot see how else I can repair the point of breakage without removing them but am reluctant to "cut them off" just yet. Has anyone experienced the same problem and if so what did you do? Cheers

If you cannot remove the retaining screws after soaking them in penetrating oil then your option is to drill out those screws and re-tap the threads to install new ones. This will allow you access to do the repairs on the throttle cable and then install new screws for the binnacle. When you reinstall those screws I would suggest you use anti-seize compound to facilitate any future removal.
Be aware that you will be attempting to drill out a screw that is made of a harder metal than the surrounding material. Precision will be needed to drill accurately. If you feel incapable I would suggest you hire someone to do this part of the job for you.

Try it before you b*tch up the heads any more than you may have already done. They work miracles.

Thank you: I finally worked them loose by using lots of penetrating oil and some serious patience and strength. Bent a couple of them but that's OK. I've ordered the new cable and hopefully all will be well again soon. Thx again for your reply.
