Throttle cable

While motoring into the dock today, I suddenly realized that my gearshift lever would not respond. After the boat slowed down, I found that I had reverse but was stuck there. I backed into a slip and here I sit. After taking off the compass, I noticed that the upper part of the attachment was disconnected. The connection to the transmissions looks fine. Has anyone dealt with this before? Specifically, can one dismantle the pedastel in sections to get at the attachment, which seems to have dropped down? I dread the thought of having to remove the large screws in the base of the pedastel. Any experience with this would be appreciated. Thanks.

Shift cable

My error, it is the gear shift lever, not the throttle as in the original post.

Done it Twice on a 37

On the 37 I had to lay the pedestal down after loosening the steering cables. You should have a cable clamp that bolts thru the wheel side of the pedestal. Buy both cables and replace both while you have the pedestal down. You might need to call Hunter to determine the lengths to buy. Bill

you can

Fix it with out removing the pedestal. There is a spacer under the compass, when removed will get you closer to your work. Hopefully you can fish the cable out and just reattach it if just came loose. If the cable is broken you will need to remove the pedestal and replace both cables at the same time. I had to replace my steering cable and was able to do it with out removing the pedestal. Good luck.

Problem diagnoses

Thanks everybody. After closer examination, I found that the cable has broken away from the control lever layer of the pedastel. As well the layer has a separate crack in it. Now to find a replaced for that part. It could be interesting. I am already thinking about having something machined. Thanks again.
