Need to repair/replace my throttle cable on my hunter 28.5. It's an '88 model and I am not sure how to take it from the control pedisol. Any thoughts?

Hi Rick, I never had to replace the cables on our

1989 H28, but replaced the shifter cable on our 1991 P42. Check the archives for the article I wrote. I was able to replace the shifter cable without removing the pedestal, but you have to remove the top parts, compass, binnacle, etc. There is a keeper that holds the shifter and throttle cables to the pedestal tube. There is a lock nut on the outside of the tube that holds this keeper, which needs to be undone. The cables come in pre-made lengths and you can buy them from WM. You can either remove the old one and take it to WM for a direct replacement or call Hunter and they can tell you the cable length for your boat. You might want to replace both cables while you're at it considering the age of your boat. Then save the old good one for a spare. Terry

must remove bracket

I agree with above, easy enough job once the bracket is removed. The nut that holds the bracket in place is located along the aft side of the helm tube about 24 inches from the cockpit floor. Must remove the shifter and throttle control arms--cotter&pin. I would also replace both as the cost is negligible.
