Has anyone replaced the throttle cable on a Hunter 27, circa 1982 with a Yanmar 1-GM? I'm about to go through the process and would like to know the correct length throttle cable to purchase. Also, any tips on fishing that cable from the engine up through the pedastal?

Fish Tape

Tyr this.... Attach a fish tape or small diameter line to the top of the cable and pull the line down the pedestal as you pull out the old cable. You can attach the line to the cable using electrical tape for a nice smooth transition. This way it won't catch on anything as you pull it down. Make sure that you remove all the anchor points so you can draw the cable down the pedestal. Draw the cable down from the engine. With the cable out you can match it at your marine store. Reverse the process to pull the cable back up.

Watch how you route it

The fish tape is a good idea, just be careful how you route the cable. Both control cables, both steering cables and any electrical wire have to go a certian way so they don't rub on each other. A strong flash light and an extra body with a mirror is a big help. The extra body for guiding the cable from down below and around the fuel tank- reach through the rear berth side hatch and watch with the mirror - is big help. I just did this a month ago.
