"NOT Needed!
Obviously 3 blade has slightly more thrust if engine is not sufficient ..BUT Hunters have more power than needed to reach hull speed. Also sailing fixed props SLOW YOU DOWN BIG time. I rec buying a two blade feathering MAX PROP. about $1600 and worth every cent! Backs up great and goes MUCH faster under sail. It is so good PHRF takes 12 seconds a mile off your rating from the 3 blade fixed prop! Mabe Hunter will credit the price of the 2 blade "standerd" equipment prop for the MAX. Remember ..even though Hunter sells to mostly crusers ..THEY RACE BIG TIME ..Hunter is a performance Crusing boats ..But their new Hunter 50 is a RACER!! Tony Re Skipper "Re-Treat" 1985 40 hunter
