I am considering changing to a three blade prop on my Hunter 37 legend. What size should I be looking for? I currently have a 17x10 on my Yanmar 3HM35F.

Have 3-blade

prop on our H36. Previous owner installed it when he repowered the boat to a Yanmar 3GM. Will be at boat tomorrow and check the specs on the prop. Mike s/v Charisma

Hunter 37 3 Blade Prop

I changed the stock 17x10 two blade to a 15x9 three blade from Campbell a few months ago. At 2800 rpm went from 6.1 knots to 7.0 knots. Less vibration and the about the same speed when sailing. Really improved motoring for about $400. Bill Bell 1987 Legand 37 "Pegasus"

Prop Change

Have a Legend 37 with a 17 x 10 2 blade prop which produced cavitation (noise) between 1900 and 2300 rpm. Changed summer of 2001 to a 16 x 11 3 blade prop. Cavitation noise disappeared but could only max out to 3000 rpm. (Engine designed up to 3600) This was a trial experiment prior to purchasing a 3 blade feathering (AutoSteam) prop. Will install new prop this season and adjust pitch to 10 (16 x 10) for max. rpm use.

Rule of thumb!

Bill: FYI, a rule of thumb when changing props. When changing from a 2 blade prop to a three blade you need to reduce the pitch or diameter by 1". Each inch of diameter or pitch with add/sub 250-300 RPM. Add/removing a blade will add/sub 250-300 RPM. I very doubt that these numbers will be accurate with an AutoProp.

3 bladed prop

I had a 3 bladed on my 37C and currently have one on my P42. I received the correct info from Hunter Customer Service. I suggest you contact them and eliminate the guess work. Perhaps Greg Emerson can help you..1-800-771-9463 X 3044

Would not use Hunter for Prop Specs.

Sid: I think you (anyone) would be much better off using a PROP EXPERT for determining which prop to use. The prop that came with some of the boats was not necessarily the correct one to begin with. Hunter is going to look at their documentation and give you the specs as the boat was delivered. The Prop people have programs that will calculate which prop you should have for your boat, engine, and transmission combination. If there is something wrong with the prop that THEY sell you, you will have someone to go back to and complain.
