reasons

I just bought an 1979 Oday 30. Near the ignition there are three red lights. The owner does not remember what they are for. I assume they are indcater lights. Does anyone know what they signify. Jim

re: three alarms

My 1979 Oday 30 has a yanmar 15 and the lites are Alternaror "not charging", "oil pressure low", and "water temp high". Hope this helps Mysticwind

mystic is correct

I also have 79 O'day 30. off hand don't remember what sequence is left to right. i marked mine with dyno labels. but don't remember the sequence. with the key on but engine not running you should have two lit up. those would be oil pressure and alternator. other is obviously high temp light. you should be able to trace one of the other wires to either an oil sensor or to the alt. s/v Que Pasa?

Thanks Mysticwinds but question

Thanks for the info. Is that the sequence for the three lights. If it is I may have a problem. The light that went off was the middle one. If that is oil pressure, it's not a good thing. Is middle light oil pressure or water temp. Thankls again Jim

clarification

first we can't assume that the factory put all the lights in the same position. to my recollection they also didn't mark them. WELL DUH! your best bet is to figure out which is which. then mark them yourself. its not to difficult to figure them out by physically tracking the wires. just requires some uncomfortable crawling into the locker and engine compartment. the wires are color coded if you have the yanmar service manual. if you don't have one i can look in mine and i can maybe give you some help. with the key on but engine not running you should have two lights on. as noted before this would be the low oil pressure and alt lights. after starting they should both go out. if engine is running don't turn key off before shutting engine down. alt light will go out but you'll burn out the diodes in the alt. s/v Que Pasa?

Thanks but boat 4hrs away.

Thanks for info. When I get up there I will trace them. Since you seem familiar with this boat, I hope i can pick your brain. I was out on a test run and once we got to motoring speed one of the alarms went off. idled down it stopped. I think is the water flow to or from engine. since it went off with low rpms. any thoughts? JIm
