I've posted a few times here about potential C30 I've been looking at. Well unless something happens I'll be the third owner of this 1990 C30 and the best part is it's at my marina. As I go through the boat I'm sure there will be some questions put forth to the group. I will be doing the compression post block repair first off.
In fact a question just formed in my brain... I believe the shower sump dumps into the bilge. Has anybody reworked the shower sump to be independent of the bilge?
Thanks and soon to be a 2 boat owner
Doug

I have moved my shower to drain into a sump box. It is not a hard install, just hard to find a sump box that fits. I then routed the hose to the area underneath the kitchen sink to a vented loop. From the vented loop I tie it into the through hull that drains the sink. I took out the float switch for the pump that was in the box and wired a on/off switch for it in the head.

Sounds Good, Bad :)
Next week I'll look at whats there and take some measurements. Did you route the drain hose through the bilge area to the sink?

Hope your purchase works out for you. I took possesion of a '88 a few weeks ago. Right now I'm 210 miles into transporting it from lake Ontario to lake Champlain. The boat is running great, a great purchase

The set up is very simple. My sump box pumped from the side of the box where the drain went into. This means the hoses faced towards the head. I simply ran the drain hose from the shower to the box (it does have a hair trap) and then I ran the hose from the sump box through the side of the bilge to the area under the galley. I went up into the galley sink cabinet to put the vented loop (there is probably another vented loop in that location already) and then ran back down to the sink drain. I will see if I can draw out a really rough drawing to help you.

Very Rough Diagram......See if you can understand it. The wires for the switch from the pump that runs into the head have to run back the same direction as the drain hose, then go into the area where the holding tank is, up through the area following the holding tank vent hose, into the compartment, down that side, and I have the switch mounted on the teak strip above the sink, under the window, above the medicine cabinet.

Here are some modifications that I have made and they are good ones.

Converted the 12V system to a 2 group 27 batteries wired in parallel and a separate auxiliary battery under the rear quarter berth. This doubles hour house bank. The 2 group 27 batteries set in the locations of the original batteries.

Added a S1 Raymarine Autopilot to the boat. This was a big job but well worth it.

Took out the crappy Jabesco Toilet and put a Raritan PHII in its place. Much better setup.

Made screens for the hatches, including the companionway.

Made canvas covers for all exterior wood, except the bow sprit.

**Changed to a Lewmar Bruce type anchor #33 with 30 feet of chain.

Added a chain stop to the bow to secure the anchor in place.

Other neat tricks:
I carry the outboard fuel and a wash down bucket in the anchor locker. The fuel can sits inside of the bucket but if it spilled it would wash out through the anchor locker drain.

My rear lazzerette holds two folding bikes in bags.

Congrats on your C30; I bought a 1990 C30T back in February, have really been enjoying it. Singlehands really well...

Into the waterways? I don't reckon that is a neat trick.

I am talking about the fumes. It is a sealed fuel can inside of a bucket. The fuel can won't spill but if it is stored aboard it needs a vent so that the fumes can escape and not go into the bilge.

I thought Catalina stopped using plywood for the compression post support in 1989. You should check that hull number.

Rob - from what I have read all c30s have an white oak block under the compression post in the bilge. Maybe your thinking of the compression post instead which I believed was changed to metal.
