Thinking of Buying and O'day 31'
Welcome to the Club! Depending on the individual boat, the 31' is one of the best all-round boats built by the company. It was built as an upgrade to their very popular 30'( a little longer with a swim platform). The advantages were the type of construction...very solid, a little longer and beamier. The shoal draft is a trade off from the fin...with only a four foot draft you can get into places others can only dream of, but it will not "point" as well as a boat with a little more in the water...(a fin or a board model). We purchased this boat in 2000 after owning an O'day 28 for more than 10 years...we took that boat south for a year. If I were younger and into racing..I stay with the 28, being in my fifties and liking to cruise, We're sold on the space, comfort and solid construction. We do struggle to understand why the standard power plant was a mere 14hp Universal (model 18)...you'll never watersky behind her but she is sufficient to get you in and out of most conditions. You live close enough to us that you are moran welcome to stop by and and "poke around" and ask questions...always glad to talk about a good boat! By the way, the price sounds about right, too! Good luck! David
