Word to the wise,Son inlaw lost mast,boom off his Laser,as did others stored in the dunes on lake Michigan at Michigan City In.Cable was cut on all boats.All aluminum parts taken for scrap.Anyone have a Laser they,re parting out?

Ouch! That stinks! I know that copper is valuable but I didn't know that they are trying to scrap out aluminum too. This is a bad thing because many boat yards and docks would be really vulnerable.
keep a weathered eye out for these people!
As far as the end result....make sure a police report is filed. The police do watch the scrap yard for suspicious activity and if someone is turning in a lot of boat parts then it may raise an eyebrow.
Check Ebay for the laser parts too.

Absolutely notify the police. They caught a ring here stealing catalytic converters off Suv's in parking lots by watching salvage yards. they can do it quick with a battery powered sawsall.
Copper and Aluminum are very high theft items. I've even seen locked cages around air conditioners.
Luckily our marina has video and numerous live-aboards. Helps a lot.

Some Skell took my AC compressor from the shop....went out for lunch and when I came back there were drag marks across the driveway......broad daylight.....what a set of balls
Do get a police report cause a friend lost his aluminum staging from a job site and he had his name engraved into it and he found it at the scrap yard

A few years back I used to store my laser beside a lake in Whistler BC. I was going to go sailing one day and same thing, some b-----d had stolen the mast and boom. Turns out the thief was stashing them in the woods down the highway and was actually selling them. Apparently they are worth more than scrap. Who'd have thought???

Yeah DJ, unfortunately there is a lot of that going around. Some people would take the pennies off a dead man's eyes and walk away as if they deserved everything they took with no regard for what the owner feels. Been there done that. It's hard to trust anyone.
