Has anyone ever replaced the thermostat on their Yanmar? One of the sailing periodocals suggested that it be changed every 3 years. I've never changed mine and the boat is 7 years old.

If It Ain't Broke......

don't fix it! I went 12 years on our Yanmar 3GM30 before changing the thermostat and the old one was perfectly fine, at least according to the temperature the engine was running at after I replaced the mixing elbow!!! The shop manual says to test the thermostat in a pan of water with an accurate temperature guage. After doing this with the 12-year old thermostat I found it was working perfectly fine. Maybe I was lucky with 12 years, I don't know. But if there are temperature problmes I don't know that I'd run out and buy a new thermostat without checking some other things first.
