The yacht club in Onset turned out to be a great place to leave the boat with stout moorings at reasonable cost in a protected harbor. The best way to fit in visits with family and friends together with meetings in Mystic and Virginia turned out to be simply turning it into one long road trip.

Strider is secure on a mooring with ice box open, seacocks closed, and the master electrical switch off. I won't return to her until the 13th, the longest I have been away since this forum began.

I'll resume my westward and then southerly progress mid month. Untill then...

Bon Voyage ! have a safe road trip! The business meetings will be quite a change from the solitary decision making of cruising.. Hope that everything goes well!

Many of us have had the idea that cruising or living on a boat represents a highly mobile lifestyle. I guess that's true enough, but at 19th century speeds and distance scales. Modern commerce demands wheels now and then. Safe journeys up and down the I- 95 corridor. At least you won't be much more than what, 40 miles from the water?

I should be back on the boat in Onset tomorrow after a great trip of visits and meetings in Virginia. (The flying to and from VA was not so great).

I won’t make it back to Onset in time to return my rental car so can’t leave there until Monday but that gives me a leisurely day with a car to restock the boat. I’ll return the car first thing Monday and head out.

My plan is still to get the Hudson River ASAP. If anyone would be interested in joining me somewhere along Long Island Sound, let me know.

It's advice a little late, but we use the train to go to DC/Virginia from either the Mystic or New London Station, even to get to Boston's Logan which has more flight choices than Hartford or Providence. Too bad you are leaving area so fast and missing Block Island again. It is real nice here this time of year.

I've got other fish to fry this year :)

Just anchored in the harbor of refuge planning a pre-dawn departure. I'm hoping to get into the Hudson River just as quickly as possible. It's nice there this time of year as well.

In my past life I used to run a cruise ship up and down the Hudson at this time of year. For exactly the reasons you are going there. The change of colors is remarkable and there is no better way to see it than from the river. There is also a number of cheap or free docks to use on the way. Bear Mountain is wonderful, and free dockage. You might also be able to get free dock at Kingston Maritime Museum, but it is not expensive if you have to pay. And it is well worth it.

How long do intend to stay in the river?
