Just acquired a 22 for less than a song and a dance. The shoe has a 3" bolt sticking out of it. Is this normal???? Please advise. Tx. in advance.

Does anyone have two C-22s

How much did you pay for your boat? I'm thinking of buying a second C-22 for my sons. Does anyone have 2 C-22s? I don't mean one for parts, I mean two that different members of your family sail together. Aldo

ok I get it now

I talked to someone at Catalina today about something else and he refered to the keel hanger casting as a shoe! Suddenly it all made sense. The answer seems to be no, it is not normal. Is it screwed into the normal shoe mounting hole? Does it have a nut on it? Is it a stud, or a partaily threaded in bolt?

Keel Hanger Bolt

Brian, The bolt is a 5/16 1-1/4" S.S. 316 bolt. Torque to 25 ft # with the keel weight supported upward with a jack. Use new bolts as the old ones will snap off if they have been previously stressed. Loc-Tite (blue) on the threads will help to keep the bolt from backing out. Replace them one at a time or you will contacting this forum again on "how to align the keel with the holes". BTW, the bolts are threaded into a S.S. weldment fiberglassed inside the hull. David B.
