The Proper Yacht

I've finally bought nice copies of both editions of 'The Proper Yacht' by Arthur Beiser. The first edition was published by MacMillan in 1966 and reprinted at least until 1972. The second edition was published by International Marine starting in the later '70s. Of interest to this list is the important detail that the Challenger is covered in the first edition and not in the second. Both editions contain the same informative and nicely, wittily written opinions about what makes a proper yacht, but the yachts written up are totally different, thus owning both is not entirely silly. Copies are quite inexpensive.

The two editions highlight the rapid change in yacht design and construction which occurred with the adoption of fiberglass and tends to support Tom Young's contention that our transitional boats are a thing apart.
