left early friday morning with weather forecast calling for 10-15 from SE. Got to point clear and the winds were 30 mph. on the nose with a 3-5 foot sea. the tide was low and coming in so we were bucking and beating into the tide and the wind. The admiral is onboard but far from experienced crew. She is making progress but rome wasn't built in a day. during one of our short tacks trying to beat into the wind the head sail got around the roller and was tangled in itself, just looking. like self destruction. i brought the boat around down wind and on a reach to free it up but no deal, she is wrapped around the roller and the sheets are beating me to death. Finally got the head sail under control, started motor sailing into the wind with short tacks but now the engine is over heating and the boat is pitching pretty wildly from the seas so we are back to sail only. Taking into consideration the expereience level of the admiral , i started to turn back to fly creek and call it off so i would ruin the admirals progress she's made in sailing. Murphy's law strrikes again . the main halard is fouled and the main isnt going back up. Now we are pretty much unable to sail and the moror is over heating with short breaks to cool down. just under head sail alone we let the engine run to assist us. Then i noticed our SOG was never over 2 mph btween the tide, seas and head wind so i checked our fuel. We now have abt 3-4 gals of diel and abt 14 miles to the ditch and calmer seas. The sail halyards still fouled and cant go up the mast in these kind of seas. The boat actually came out of the water and landed pretty hard a couple of times but I kept at it. Make a long story short, a 4-5 hr trip to LuLu's turned into 12 hours. Many thanks to the guys at LuLu's for bringing me out 5 gals of diesel to insure me making it ito the canal without running out of fuel. " BOAT US wouldnt do it . " Spent the night at LuLiu's recooping and repairing halyards and blocks so today we are head east for pirates cove or big lagoon. Fair winds.

Chuck........

glad to hear you got some diesel delivered and that you made Lulu's. As i just came back through there a week ago today, I'm jealous that i am not heading once again East. I absolutely love Saturday nights at Pirates Cove. Always some excellent local music and having a small boat with no shower its nice to make the short walk to the free showers. I hope the jellyfish are gone by the time you make Big Lagoon. Frank

Hello Chuck.....

Glad to hear the trip is getting better. I apologize for not returning your call....I realized it with I saw this post. As Frank mentioned, we had a wonderful ten days cruising that area. Fortunately we had no mechanical problems and no one got into trouble. Last Saturday night we jumped on one of the boats in our group and motored from Pirate's Cove to Lulu's for supper. There was a two hour wait for a table so we made the best of things while passing the time. After dinner we motored back to Pirate's Cove. Like Frank, I too love Saturday nights at Pirate's Cove. It's a hoot drinking bushwackers and listening the the live music. As one of our group regularly reminds us....."It don't get no better than this!" Next weekend I'll be helping a friend move a C&C 34 from Slidell to Pascagoula. I suspect it's going to be a long hot trip. Take care and good luck.... Dick Have a safe trip.
