At least it isn't accumulating.... otherwise I'd be shoveling white fever from the driveway this morning....Very disheartening ! I plan to launch in just 18 days. Brightwork is almost done and bottom painting is all that is left. But it needs to STOP this cold and snow BS now...

Yeah, we had snow yesterday. 50’s today (went out and filled the water tanks and washed the deck and hull while on the hard) and hope to drop her in the water later this week.

Marina won’t have the water on at the docks for a while, hence filling up the tanks so I at least have some water for cleaning up the interior once in the water.

My marina (in Indiana) just announced we could get in to work on our boats and get in the water. I don’t think the Chicago marinas are open unfortunately.

Feels like spring is here (at least in Chicago).

Wish I could fill my tanks at home.. On a well... It's a good well, but long ago I was counseled to NEVER use well water aboard boat. Town water usually has a tad of chlorine, not that you'd taste it but still there. And while my well is tested twice a year, I've taken the advise to heart..

It always puzzled me why cruising boats don’t have a UV light as part of their on board water system? Is this a power - battery issue?

Well for us, after acquiring our boat we have been busy with some sort of replacement each year. I think we may have reached the point where we can now consider UV.

Chlorine is cheap and effective, what problem does UV solve? Would you zap at the faucet? If you zap at the inlet, anything you miss can grow in the tank, chlorine is persistent.

UV installs downstream of the supply pump, before the distribution manifold consumes approximately 2 A @ 12 VDC linked to the pump so it turns on when in use and off when not. The unit am looking at is about $500 is complete with 3 stage filtration, sand, carbon and UV. In theory you could use the water right out of the lake.

3 stage filtration, sand, carbon and UV
It’s my understanding that UV works most effectively on “filtered” water. As the water passes the UV light there is some chance for bacteria to be in the “shadow” of a particulate.

The sand would trap big particulate, carbon would deal with odour.

My point being the more you can filter the water before the light the better. Does the system you are looking at have a low micron replaceable filter as well?
