The last two inches of @#$&*

Having come from a removable porta-potty to a one-year old head and holding tank system, I've been curious on how this system operates (never read so much on sanitation in my life). A smell issue was easily solved using the information on this forum (blocked vent). Thanks so much! In my curiosity this weekend. I decided to watch the tank while at the pump out. Man ... that thing sucks. Anyway, it appears as though the last two inches of waste will forever be in the bottom of the tank (due to the proximinty of the outtake hose and the angle of the tank). Should the tank be tilted aft in order to force the contents toward the hose? Are these tanks supposed to clean themselves out completeley (somewhat)? I'm looking forward to the day I'm less interested in this part of my Hunter 30. Thanks! Eric

That day prob'ly won't ever come

There's no way to pump a tank completely dry...which is why it's a good idea to flush it out with clean water every 4-6 pumpouts. Stick a hose (NOT one used to fill fresh water tanks!) down the deck pumpout fitting, add about 5 gallons of water...pump...do it again...pump...till what's coming out is clean water. Hey...nobody ever said holding tanks don't required any maintenance.
