gunnel fitting where it is pumped out is ready to pop, it is a long hose on our C-30 1983 Catalina. I can just see (smell) the bilge full of waste with my wife and I spending the weekend away on the boat! I would like to replace it with the white 1.5” hose sold at Home Depot or some other inexpensive hose. It is the same hose as the west Marine West Marine white waste hose but less expensive. Any way will it collapse when we go to the pump out station to empty the tank? The pump out station has some good strong suction to get all the waste from the tank. Thanks C-30 1983 Chip & Debbie

Don't go cheap when it really counts

As you so aptly note: "I can just see (smell) the bilge full of waste with my wife and I spending the weekend away on the boat!", try another situation: you thought you might save a couple bucks on the halyard lines and hardware by buying stuff from Home Depot that looked the same as the marine stuff, and now you are hoisted 50' in the air up your mast - Was saving that couple of bucks worth the potential fall, or as you said, a bilge full of fun? I'd say not. Buy the right stuff (there are less expensive places to get it - and West Marine will match prices - do your homework) and have some peace of mind. Good Luck! The hose it Home Depot looks just

like the one at West Marine. I will ask West Marine about the differences, maybe one is treated for waste odor and the other isn’t. OK answered this question. I looked in the WM catalog and it says that it is for waste hose and will withstand the suction. Now why did I not look there before? Now to bring a piece I have on the boat to HD and compare it. The prices are WM 3.40 - HD 2.65 ft. Thanks any way Chip & Debbie 1983 C-30

Buy the good hose

I am afraid I have to agree with Tim. Don't cut corners on boat stuff. I just spent $8.00 a foot on some hose for the head. Totally replaced the head and all hoses. It is supposed to work for at least five years. If you have to replace yours every two years because your cabin smells like a holding tank, what did you gain? Labor costs are much higher than hose price. Even if you do it yourself the hassle of the leaky tank while you are changing hoses. Spend the extra buck!

HD hose is not thesame kind

of hose that is at WM. I brought a pice to HD and they are a slitely different. They sure looked th same until I brought a pic to match up. I'll get the marine hose. Thanks Chip 1983 C-30

Since your looking to save a buck

You might as well cut back to the single ply toilet paper as well.
