Has anyone bought replacement Gray/Bomar portlights for their h30 or h33 lately? I was wondering where people are finding the best prices...got a $129 each (7"x15") quote from WM, listing for $103 each on Sailnet, but I've read some odd things about Sailnet lately, so wondering about ordering from them. Looked in the Defender online catalog, didnt' find the ones I need, so I'm searching for sources if anyone knows a good one. I'm going to order the entire set (11), so a little difference in price could add up. Thanks in advance.

Sailnet

There is something going on at Sailnet. I received an e-mail from the new CEO. It said the founders(Sam Broyle and wife) had "moved on"? But I like the price difference. Might give them a call and see if you can get a quantity discount. Or just try one. I have also heard that WM will match the best price that you can find. The advantage is no shipping. Order them at the store and pick them up. Smart move using exact replacements. Wish I had.

Order them at the store and pay sales tax!

One advantage of ordering them online is NO SALES TAX. Shop around, most any marine outlet will order them for you. It is just a matter of getting the BEST price.

Thrifty Mariner

Thrify Mariner had the best deal on these a few years ago. They got Gray/Bowmar factory seconds and sold them for fifty bucks. I bought six and found no visual defects. Price included the screen. Try to see if they are still in business

Ports?? Prices??

I amnot sure if your boat has the same ones as my 1976, 30" but the price sailnet is advertising is a lot cheaper than that. $86.38 to be exact.

Sizes and Thrifty Mariner.

Thrifty Mariner has been out of business for some time now. Too bad, you couldn't beat his prices. Bob, the $84. price is for 5x12. If all the ports are openers(older Cherubinis) then I think you need four 5x12s and four 7x15s for the cabin trunk sides(Related Link). Then you might have one or two into the cockpit. The H33, H36 and H37C have six 7x15s.

Port light replacements

Just purchased 10 new portlights for an H36 that I'm refitting. Got them thru BoatUS. The 5x7 were $115, the 7x10 were $119, and the 8x15 were $135. Tried to find a at a lot of different places, but it turns out that it was just easier to order. BTW, Gray instructions say to use 5200 caulk to install. I think that Hunter used white silicone to do the original installs - primarily because the caulking peeled off like rubber strips. I'm mulling over which to use as 5200 will make it difficult to remove/replace later. Anyone have any thoughts or experience?

5200 on Ports

The Bomar/Gray ports I got said to use 5200. Didn't seem right to me and I tried it on one. While installing it I decided if I ever needed to remove it that I would break the port and the gelcoat it was bonded to. I did that last five with silicon. Sold the boat four year later but had no problems during that time

best prices for gray portlights

I bought 8 new Bomar/Gray portlights from Sailnet last spring and cost was a little under $700.00. Haven't installed them yet and don't plan on using 5200. I bought Boat Life Life Seal.

Portlights

WM will price match anyones legit price for the same product...Must be the same, if there would be shipping added, they will add whatever shipping that Defender, Sailnet, etc charges... Yes you might pay sales tax, but you can't beat the return policy of WM, etc.... And yeah, I do work for them..But, we have the pretty happy customers for the most part.>We do our darndest to keep them happy.. Ed S/V MYST

How about . . . .

How about 11 New Found Metal ports. At Annapolis show prices, with screens and chrome hangers, $2557.70 including $125.25 shipping. Then $100 -$150 for incidental materials for installation. Carbide burrs, rotary files, sanding drums, loads of caulk, blue tape. And LOTS of time to install. Believe it or not my wife made me do it because she was tired of getting rained on. For some reason the ports on her side leaked when it rained. Odd how mine didn't! Despite loads of aggravation and an incredible amount of time they work and look great.

Factory Seconds

are an option to consider. If you call the Pompanette (Bomar) factory in Tampa Florida at 813.885.2182 and ask them very nicely they may be able to get you real good pricing. At times you cannot tel the difference between them and first quality items. Pricing should be similar to what Thrifty Mariner charged.

Portlights

Dow-Corning 795 was the ome sealant on these bears. I think you can get it from Hunter. It is an isopropanol cure silicone that will hang on for longer than you own the boat. DO NOT CONFUSE this material with acid cure hardware store stuff. This is a different, much tougher animal. Hope this helps, JIm
