Used to be a guy in the J24 fleet they called "Boom Vang John" because that was his job. Keep 'em from rounding up! I think the name really came from the skipper realizing that the boat was about to broach and round up and he'd call "Boom Vang!, John" - I think it matters where the grammatical pause is.

His name is Alex. He's a good friend of mine. A world class sailor/racer from Lisbon Portugal.

He is often on on-line boards as Giulietta, which is his boats name. Keeps her in Cascais. He runs a tight ship with zero room for error. You think I sound like a hard case, then you DO NOT want to sail with him. ;^)

Sail twist is one of the most important aspects of sail trim. Learning to use sail controls properly to set twist does more than make the boat go faster (most cruisers tell me they don't care about how fast they are going.) Properly set twist can also reduce the heeling angle, while still making you go faster. And most everyone wants to be able to sail with less heel. Here's as good as any primer on sail controls: https://shop.sailboatowners.com/prod.php?51998/Sail+Trim+Users+Guide
