I keep getting the same questions over and over. I see the same questions asked about other systems over and over. I suspect that's because too many people only read posts which happen to interest them or relate to their own specific problem or issue at any given time. And some just jump on to ask a question without reading anything that came before. If you do that, you're blowing an excellent opportunity to gather a storehouse of information you're almost certain to need at sometime in the future...if not on the boat you own now, on the next one. Every day a wealth of knowledge is exchanged here about every aspect of operating and maintaining just about everything on any sailboat. The time to read ALL of it is before you have a problem, for much of it will teach you how to prevent problems--what someone else didn't do that they should have, or did wrong--as well as how to fix them. Just because you own a 260 is no reason to skip over posts from 410 owners--and vice versa...'cuz a boom is a boom, a stuck halyard is a stuck halyard, and misbehaving toilet is a misbehaving toilet, no matter what size boat it's on...and anticipating problems is the best way to prevent them. So the best advice I can give any of you is: read ALL the posts each day. Ask questions just because you want to know--not just because it broke on your boat...'cuz the more you know, the better sailor you'll become...and nothing builds more competence--or confidence--than a broad base of knowledge.

Great advise. I have been doing just that since I became involved in HOW.

I agree, however

I agree, however the volume of posts is very large and not everyone has enough time to read all of them.

Ah cripe!! Everyone keep it to 15 words...

or less please. Can we get a management overview set up? Something with short words - verbs and other action words in bold...

Other alternative: Check archives

90% of the questions can be answered by an archive inquiry in which you can read the same Q & A's over and over.
