....I much prefer to think of my female sailing companion as my partner and a worthwhile contributor to OUR boating lifestyle. There is no gender in the term crew.
Same here and she is usually at the helm in almost all situations, especially going on anchor or off,

My wife and sailing partner will often remind others that I'm just the Captain and she is the Admiral and therefore gets the last word... Period...end of discussion

I don't know what "older generation" you are talking about, but in over 5 decades of messin about on boats I'd never heard the term used to describe one's female companion on a boat until I read it on an online forum, fairly recently. I think it's a disrespectful and belittling term that implies that just because someone's plumbing is on the inside to think they cannot be a worthwhile contributing member of a boat's crew.

I don't know about you guys but personally I like gender on the boat. After all, at lights out lying in the huge queen bunk aft, I'm very glad for gender. :)

My wife says we always go faster when she's at the helm. I always say she has a better crew.

On our boat everyone is just a Boatswain Mate........3rd class. No one want's to take responsibility for what might happen next. :ass:

Good gracious... the new orthodoxy has found its way into a sailing forum now?

Edit: Some posts brought my wife and I a good chuckle...

Personally, I love sailing in the dark. it's being within 50' of the shoreline in the dark that freaks me out
My Admiral too! Until I got her this Xmas present.

Night Vision Camera.

Works great for up to 100'. Has an IR flashlight built in, to get up to 300'
Jim...

PS: Radar, chart plotter and NV makes the Admiral only need 2 Martini's to relax during a night sail.:dancing:

Are you saying the NV goggles made her a cheap(er) date?

No, but she is less nervous when she can SEE around the boat at night.

I looked at several options and camera was almost a free add on.

Wait...
Did I say less nervous?

This is a "Lights Out" and "Total Darkness" camera!!

Other Martini side effects are fun too.;)
