24 million?????? Nice boat... but I think the journalist forgot the decimal point.

There was a fire at the Christensen Boat Works in Vancouver, Oregon while I was overseeing the construction of a vessel for my owner. It destroyed several 125'+ yachts under construction and damaged several others, ours included. The Portland fire department was completely out of their depth and finally a rig was brought in from the airport with foam. All because a worker had left an electric heater running so his work area would be warm in the morning.
Anyway, it was a memorable evening for all.

What really warps my cosmic existence is, how are basic fire prevention protocols so easily ignored? Let's face it, it takes an act of Congress to use a welder, heater or otherwise in many companies. Fire watches armed with every alarm and fire suppression system imaginable are commonplace. Considering the massive cost of these types of boats how does Wally the Welder just light it up or as you said Capta, leave a heater running so they don't get chilly.

Right now I'm thinking I could have more fun with the drone cam than with the Yacht.

I don't think the wash from that drone had any effect on that fire.

First one to post a video of their boat under sail from a drone wins a henway. Let the race begin.

I remember seeing the smoke on my way to work, knowing it was really close to the marina, and thinking that's way too much smoke for a 31 footer. Windmistess' slip is 1/8 mile to the south. The more accurately reported estimate of the steel hulled boat is $17m. I'm wracking my brain trying to figure out what issues you have to have that require a $17m "haven". I get a good deal of relief just creeping out to the workshop in the garage.

Good point Wufibugs. I'm sure he single hands that behemoth. Only 17 million? Well clearly this is getting into our price range. That thing burns more money in a day than I'll use in a year. In other news; World oil prices tumble on news of the megayacht Polar Bear being destroyed in a fire. We have havens in our boats, so I guess we know what a haven means. Freedom that the wind provides and small enough not to need a press gang to find crew.

"Freedom that the wind provides and small enough not to need a press gang to find crew."

Course that depends on the reputation of the captain. So far I've mastered two orders: "Step Lively" and "Shanghai".

How about "Another beer/rum/drink of choice, please!" and then "step lively!"
