That same old rudder question

I am currently considering a 1983 H34 and have one concern, the owner says that the boat was delivered in July '83 and that he isn't aware of the upgraded rudder. My question is, does anyone have the dimensions of the orginal versus the "High Performance" rudder Hunter offered as a replacement and included on all 84-86 boats. I have read that it is "6 longer but have been unable to find out what it is 6" inches longer than. I also see from your forum that Hunter no longer owns the molds and there is a company that is able to produce the rudders. Does anyone have a recent cost of replacing the rudder. Thanks, Robert

h34 Rudder Upgrades

Robert, I have hull #56 which had the early design rudder when I bought it in 1994. Hunter replaced these for free during the first year but had no interest in talking to me about an 11 year old boat. My rudder measured about 11" long at the bottom. The newer design measures about 16". The depth of the rudders are the same. I just had a new one built last week and still have it at my home. If you need any information email me. bolsen34@aol.com Barry Olsen

Try Foss Foam

Foss Foam in Clearwater Florida made the ones for my H37 Cutter. I would call them and get a price, assuming they are the correct ones. They still make them for the 37 Cutter and I would expect they do for yours.

Check a Hunter 31

If the rudders are different you have the right rudder. Dave
