Thanksgiving sailing?

So, who goes sailing on Thanksgiving, and how? Here in the snowy north, the big boat is high and dry, but we're planning on a sail Friday on the club's 18-footer that's still in the water, despite the predicted 32 degrees, a "tradition" we started last year. And how will you observe Thanksgiving afloat? I'm sure there must be a lot of interesting stories.....

Thanksgiving in Canada

We spent last weekend in Michigan with family and celebrated Turkey Day then. So we're on our own this weekend and are headed for Canada on the boat. Canada has already celebrated their Thanksgiving, but we're headed for Sidney B.C. and will have dinner out. Friday we'll take a city bus to Victoria for some interesting shopping. Saturday we'll visit Buchart Gardens and do "high tea" there. Forecast for tomorrow is temps in the mid 40's, rain and fog with 15-20 knot southeasters which will be off the port quarter for most of the trip. Sounds like foulies and long underwear to me. Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving! Gary Wyngarden S/V Wanderlust h37.5

Ok, I confess...

I'm planning on a few hours out in the middle of the day - followed by lots of eating and then, er, more eating. Suppose to be 75 or so tomorrow - biggest challenge is the low water levels in the bay - makes getting out of the bayou a bit tricky! Happy Thanksgiving, BillP.

I 'm Going Out as Well

Father in law was in the hospital so my wife is up in New Jersey. The kids and I will take the boat out for a sail most of the day and then come home and cook a prime rib dinner on the grill. We will miss her but I won't miss the turkey at all.

I'll be out there

Giving thanks for a wonderful season, and looking forward to next year. Very chilly in Chesapeake Bay land on TG, but rarely so. Temperate weather is one more thing to be thankful for.

Great Sail

A little sporty getting back into the slip wind was blowing pretty good across the slip but we did great. My daughter asked why I was concerned about the landing after we were tied off so I guess I must have brought my "A" game this time. Next time I'll probably ding mine and three other boats.

I went out yesterday

ran across 4 guys in a small powerboat with a dead battery. Said to myself...I knew I should have gotten some jumper cables. I was towing them back to the gas pumps and just as we got close and I pulled them up to the front quater to push instead of pull, the overheating alarm came on. After doing a little checking, I realized I had a hole in one of my freeze plugs. Then one of the guys had the bright idea of taking the battery out of my boat and starting his with my battery and they tow me back in. While they towed me I put water in the engine so when we got close to my marina I cut loose and motored in. Who needs TowBoat US :) Bet ya can't guess what I'm doing next weekend when the parts come in.

thanksgiving sail???

We try to make a thanksgiving sail a tradition, but again this year the forecast was for snow! My friend Mark (also a 356 owner, from Portland)came down from the colder north last Sunday and we took WWW.Escape out for a fantastic sail! Wind was gusting to 23 but the seas were calm, temp in the 50's, and we were comfortable in just sweaters. Mark had never sailed in Salem sound before, so we spent 5 hours exploring the waters around Salem, Marblehead, halfway rock (about 3 miles offshore)and Bakers Island before returning to the dock for a great sunset. Sad to say the weather in New England has been so bad this year it was one of our best days all summer! We've got maybe 2 weeks to hope for another warm day before we haul for the year. Oh well.....

Wait for me!

Just as soon as I find the broom. It'll take me a minute or two. :)
