tightening forestay

John, Glad I could help. By tightening the forestay, you will probably add some prebend to the mast, assuming you are not tightening or loosening anything else. I've learned that on these Hunter fractional rigs, 6" of prebend is not a problem anyway. So, I don't think that tightening only the forestay will change your rake that much, probably only a very small amount. Rake will move forward if you loosen the backstay (if you have one) and the outer shrouds (due to the swept back spreaders) in conjunction with the forestay. You say that the rake is good, I'm assuming you are not getting excessive weather helm. But if you do, raking it forward may help the chaffing issue and reduce weather helm. Regards, Roc
