Rick, recently you kindly offered a suggestion on the subject of a problem I had with the electrics in a Mk I 28.Stripping back the harness loom connector at the engine end I found a hardened silicon-type substance had been compressed around the 8 point cable connector. I could not imagine that there could have been a problem in there, it APPEARED to be absolutely in tact and airtight! Anyway, two hours later I had gotten to the point of clearing the sealant (bloody awful job) and had nice clean exposed wires to reconnect. ( I didn't just cut it off because I wanted to examine it and prove the contact/no contact, corrosion/ no corrosion possibility.)The earth wire was on the edge of the sealant and was not entirely covered, although looked an excellent join. On pulling it (earth) apart there was a little corrosion (very little, but enough!). Everything now is fine, even the tacho is operating again.Sealing electrics in such a way is fine if done perfectly, but is just breeding a difficult to fix problem if not done perfectly.I am very grateful to you Rick. Let me know when next you are in Sydney and I'll buy you a fair dinkum beer, mate!!!!
