I must admit, your moniker "head mistress" is well deserved. Thank-for your explaination of head odours...I just apologize that it was the 2 zillionth time you had to explain it. I was wondering if you know how the head system on my Lancer 28 works. I JUST purchased it, and don't have the luxury of being able to be on board everyday to tinker with things. it appears to be a porta-potti set up, with a holding tank under the v-berth storage. There is a "deck filler" access which, I assume, is for waste pump out where availble. I have attached a picture for you to look at, and see if something your familiar with. I would appreciate any insight that you may have.

It does appear to be a portapotty

What I can't see in the photo is whether there are any hoses connected to it...iow, whether it's a model designed to be permanently installed and fitted for pumpout, or just a portaportable model that a PO used to replace a manual toilet and just left the holding tank under the v-berth in place. Unless there is a hose from the toilet tank to the holding tank, it's just a portable portapotty...I think. I might know more if I could read the label on the inside of the lid.

Porta-potti issue quasi-cleared up...

Peggie, I spoke to the Gentleman who performed the last survey of the vessel. He tells me that the top portion of the porta-potti looking thing is filled with water (I presume for flushing), and the holding tank is under the v-berth storage. There is, indeed, a hose that connects the two. Now...it looks to me that one can't hold that much water for flushing...is there anyway that I can add more water. He also tells me that there is a through hull attachment with a sea valve for flushing overboard...(where permitted). Is this any type of head system that you have heard of or have any experience with....?

You don't need more flush water...

That's one of the advantages of a portapotty--it only needs just enough to rinse the bowl. Used correctly, yours should hold 50-60 flushes...at least twice as many as a 15 gallon tank connected to a 15 gallon tank. I'm a big fan of your setup on smaller boats, even without the remote tank. No maintenance, almost no plumbing, max holding capacity in a small space.
