Hunter Passage 42 St Andrews Scotland
Hello everyone. My daughter is at the George Washington University DC and both my wife and I would like to visit her in the Spring for a week maybe, two. Some of you will know I own Casper a Hunter Passage 42 berthed in Scotland one hour north of Edinburgh, but only 15 minutes from Dundee. Would anyone fancy a sort of bed swap? Your boat bed for a bed on Casper. A holiday for you visiting the highlands of Scotland with a base to work from, Casper? There need be no sailing of each others sail boats?

Did you know that Washington University is in St. Louis, Missouri? I don't think there is a large population of live-aboard accommodations on sailboats in that vicinity, although St. Louis does lie on the banks of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers (and is the Gateway to the West).

Hello Scott. Silly me I have never been to America and did not realize there is two Washington's. It is the Washington near to Chesapeake Bay where I understand there is a lot of Hunter owners. Washington DC

I don't have a boat in DC but, my son lives about 5 blocks from the Capitol Building and 4 from Union Station. He occasionally rents a room with an en suite bathroom-_ brand new apt building with great amenities. Would you consider something like that, as a trade for time on your boat (for four people to stay on your boat) let me know if you are interested and for what dates.

That is funny .... I was making fun of you because I assumed that your were talking about University of Washington, in Seattle Washington. So you must be talking about The George Washington University in D.C. unless you might also be talking about Washington and Lee University in western Virginia (not far from Glasgow ... Virginia ;)). Not many marinas with many sailboats that far up the Potomac. Annapolis is not far away, though.
My son went to Glasgow University for a semester a few years back. He also visited Edinburgh for Fringe Festival while he was there.

Scallywagger, I hope you enjoy your visit to the US. Scott is correct, Washington University is in St. Louis.

We will need the exact (official) name of the University. It is possible you mean George Washington University, which is in Georgetown (a section of Washington DC)? George Washington is in the Western area of Washington DC and actually borders (I think) on the Potomac River. Washington DC is not very big, area wise. Check that out with your daughter and get back to us and maybe somebody can help. I live in South Carolina with a 40 footer and wish I could help you but it is about 500 miles from Washington DC. Being of Scottish decent (Graham) I'd love to be able to do an exchange.

There is a "Washington" in just about every state that run in size from a population of 100 people to about 700,000 in Washington DC. He was a "popular" guy here! ;) Good luck in your search. Hope somebody can help.

Hello once more Scott Graham and everyone. My daughter Rebecca is at the George Washington University. If I do get to visit, some of you might want to ask at another date if Casper is in use; if not, we could come to some arrangement for you to stay. I work at sea 6 weeks on, 6 off. Casper sits six months a year unused.

So Will it is close to the university? I am very interested but need to know a little about your son and other people, probably your son about me also before either of us would allow one another to use our properties. Perhaps we could talk more by email. capbillsmurth@gmail.com

Hi Scallywagger. Our daughter went to St. Andrews for 4 years. We watched her graduate in 2013. Those 4 years in Scotland changed her life (and ours too). We spent a few weeks visiting her over the 4 years and enjoyed ourselves immensely. During graduation week, we saw the new lock gates tested at St. Andrews. I know you DON'T keep your Hunter in St. Andrews.

Her class was the 600th(!!) class to graduate at St. Andrews. The history there is staggering. You live in a beautiful place.

Coming from Maine, I struck up a conversation with this lobsterman in St. Andrews in 2009. Such a nice man.

Hope you have as good a time visiting your daughter in DC. Also a beautiful place.

Hello Tomy. I brought Casper from the south coast of England to St Andrews 1st August 2013 and I was at the celebration of the new lock gates. Casper was in the inner harbour. Sadly the new lock gates were so good at holding the water in and then flushing the outer harbour clean at low water, that is carried all the soft mud away from the inner harbour and Casper began to sit high and dry. I had to move her 10 see miles away to Arbroath marina. I live in Cupar just 10 minutes from St Andrews and now 35-40 minutes from Arbroath. I loved Casper being in St Andrews.
That fishermen is George and he got a metal filing in his eye griding a rusty nut off on his fishing boat Glad you like historic St Andrews. Hope you played a round of golf

Yes, jviss, I know. Scallywagger edited his original post to clarify. When Scallywagger originally posted "Washington University" without identifying the location, my first instinct was to think that he was talking about U of W in Seattle, so I was simply having some fun at his expense. (Now you're going to say that U of W is in Madison ;))

I think I recall his name was George, now that you mention it. I never got a round of golf in, but we had several rounds (pints), at the Central. :) Hope to return some day.

We spent a few days on the Isle of Skye. Stunning land.

Yes Tomy. The west coast of Scotland is the real sailing ground. Where I am can be a bit rough and ready. I tend to cross over to Norway Denmark 366nm away or 400+ to Holland Belgium. Some of my crossings are on youtube
