My friend just bought a Catalina 27 including termites. What should he do?

Good luck....

The boat maintenance people in my area use a heavy duty spray they purchase at a big box store. There is a flexible sprayer attachment to penetrate holes and corners. They report good results, but note it can take several applications in a season to eliminate the pests fully. When I sold my last boat, I went through a commercial termite eradicator, but the experience was awful. Part of it was trust in that I thought they were continually upselling me because it was a small job. I finally caved in and just let them do it although they did give a pretty good price break ultimately. Good luck. RD

Replace the bulkheads

If it's an older model, it probably needs to be done anyway. How infested is the boat? Every bulkhead? All of the galley? He might call a professional exterminator first and then figure out which option is more expensive. Perhaps a combination of both?? LaDonna

Fumigate?

I would think that you could tent the boat (out of the water) and have a pest control service fumigate. This is done on homes all the time to rid them of termites...can get rid of a few other varmits also. Might be a bit pricey though.

could be from dock

The termites could be from the dock or piling. If the boat was at a dock. I've seen this before.
