Terminal strip in engine console

We were discussing upgrading the terminal strip in the engine console on another thread recently. In preparation for a little cruise we’re taking Monday I finally did it today. Also added a fused 12V outlet, and an oil pressure gauge (wire is run most of the way, but not connected to sensor yet-ran out of time and energy-getting it through the metal conduit was a real pain!).

All of the wires coming from the engine were in great shape, despite not being tinned, but surprisingly most of the ones going to the controls had oxidation on the outside of the wire when I stripped them for the shrink ring connectors. I didn’t have the time or wires to replace them, but that’s now on the to-do list.

A few pictures, also one of the old Euro style strip.

When you get a chance. Images of the upgrade would be nice.

That is the new strip. The old one is the last picture.

The new strip in s larger than the old one. It’s a tight fit getting things closed up.

Now I see it. Good work. Needed to blow up the images to see the heat shrink and design differences.
Do you need to have a cover to protect the exposed contacts?

The way it’s installed the exposed metal is against the front of the console, so little chance for shorting; at least that’s my story!!

The Euro strip had bare wire on the engine side (often doubled over) and soldered ends on the console side. Maybe the soldering had something to do with the corrosion on those wires?

All my wires are inside the boat engine compartment. As the Catalina set up is in an exterior compartment I like the strip idea.
