Tenn-Tom
For any cruising on the Tenn-Tom, I heartily recommend the Marian Thomas and W.J. Rumsey Guide, "Tennessee River, Tenn-Tom Waterway, and Lower Tombigbee River" International Main, Camden Maine. This guide really does a great job of setting you up for river travel. She knows this river system. In September, I moved my boat, a H 33, from Choctawhatchee Bay to Mobile Bay and up the Mobile, Tombigbee, and Tenn-Tom waterway to Demopolis. From there, I had the boat hauled overland to my place at Montevallo, only about an hour and a half. I'm presently refitting the boat. When I get through, hopefully before summer next year, I plan to take it back to Demopolis, turn up the river and spend a year or so in the Tennessee system. Maybe I'll run into you. The lower Mobile, and Tombigbee and in fact the whole Tenn-Tom up to Demopolis doesn't have many good anchorages, there is a good bit of large tow traffic and there is very little in the way of fuel and service so you are pretty much on your own from Mobile (or Dog River south of Mobile) to Demopolis, a distance of about 226 land miles. On the other hand, it is very beautiful, and about the wildest country you could wish to see. With locks to go through and bridges that turn to let you through, its great fun.
