I have purchased a 26M and this is my first proper sailing boat, I would like to carry a tender and outboard, will davits fit on the stern somewhere, if not where do I put the tender, what would the maximum size be and where do I fit an outboard bracket for the aux motor? Lots of questions sorry. Marcus

Call me crazy, but

I doubt you could add davits to hold a dingy to the rear of a Mac. The beam is only 8 feet, and all that weight hanging off the very rear of the boat doesn't seem like it would work. I think the people who carry tenders on Macs, generally keep them uninflated. I've never seen a Mac mod for dingy davits, but I'm sure I haven't seen them all. Your motor could be mounted to the stern rail relatively easily, though Check the 26M mod website. (Sorry I can't remember the address.)

Sail with tender

Sail with the tender behind you boat. Just snug it close to one side of the boat away from the motor. I found that it doesn't really work if I let out too much rope. By the way, never sail with the outboard hanging on the tender. In rough water the tender may flip. You can find a outboard mount for the pushpit. See picture.

Tenders

I have a 26M and I mostly tow my Dinghy. The 26M has considerably less stainless steel railing than the X so attachment points for an outboard are severely limited. I leave the outboard on the dinghy. You can store the dinghy deflated across the foredeck over the windows just in front of the mast or inflated with the transom against the mast and bow shoved into the pulpit, 9'9" is the max length for this. An 8'6" dinghy would be a more ideal size as my 9'9" Titan is a bit large. Also a big consideration is the weight of the outboard, as some of the higher HP models 5+ are heavy 40 -60 lbs. Try lifting that off the 26M and onto your dinghy while out in a chop. That is why I leave my 5hp Honda 4 stroke mounted on the dinghy while towing.

Thanks to you all

Thanks for the tips, I will fit a rear railguard wooden block to hold the aux motor (5hp) and tow the dingy a little way to the side. But first I will need to get those snazzy rear rail seats I've spotted on other mod sites! Marcus
