Has anyone installed a cooling water temp guage on a 2GM20F. Haven't a clue as to where to start. Any ideas, drawings, steps to take, how to connect and what to connect would be appreciated.
You will need a Temperature Sender Unit, located on the Thermostat Housing. The Sender has a 3/8"∅ 19 “PT” (ISO Metric Thread - same as B.S.P. - NOT ‘NPT’), and a Temperature Gauge.Wiring (Use all #14 AWG, or at least #16, Tinned Copper Wire):Tan Wire from Temperature Sender To “S” Terminal on Gauge.Violet Wire from “I” Terminal on Ignition Switch to “I” (+) Terminal on Gauge.Yellow (or Black) Wire from Ground Bus to “”G” Terminal on Gauge.Light Blue Wire from Panel Light Switch (Accessories ?) to “L” Terminal on Gauge. Ray:While being able to check the temp and/or oil pressure may seem like a good idea, I would recommend that you DO NOT remove the audible alarms. The best way to augment your system is to 'T' off the existing unit. I would advise you to have this professionally done. It requires retapping your existing threads and inserting a Tee. THen you would have the audible alarm on one side and the gauge sender on the other.
Yes, but I'll have to find the pictures. I added temp., fuel, and oil press. I mounted them on a piece of ABS above the current instrument panel. It blends well and because of the angle change on the cockpit sidewall, is very easy to see. Additionally, they all light with the switch on the lower panel. I left the alarm intact. Send me your e-mail address and I'll send the pictures to you.
With the help/guidance of a Yanmar mechanic I added oil pressure and temperature gauges to the 2GM20F on my 30T (1991). Left the alarms in place so now I have gauges and alarms. If you want pictures and instructions as to how I did the project contact me through the Owner's Directory.
Roy: I have the same engine and I'd love to see your photos and instructions. But the owners directory database seems to be down, so I can't get in touch with you off-line. Could you please contact me at this (disposable) address: ajsailing-yanmar@yahoo.com. Many thanks.
