I've got the standard 110 genoa on this 25.5, which came with lower tell-tales only. I want to add middle and upper tales to help with trimming. The lowers are set back one foot from the luff...Is it best to set the middle and uppers a foot back as well? If there's a specific formula for this, bsed on sail size, I'd love to know. Thanks all. A foot seems a little far...

Hi Brad, From what little I've read, it seems most recommend placing the tell-tales about 7-10 inches from the leading edge of the sail, and the tell-tale itself should be no more than 6-8 inches. These figures are from memory, so your mileage may vary. On my H25's 135 Genoa, I placed three sets evenly spaced up the leading edge, and all were approx. 7 inches from the leading edge, and they seem to work well. Good luck! --Jon Bastien H23/H25

Another Opinion...

I have always been told the tell tails should be placed about 6 to 18 inches from the luff of the sail depending on the size of the boat. UK Sailmakers has a great explanation on their web page under "Learning Center" They are at uksailmakers.com Dick McKee S/V Constellation
