Does anyone have any suggestions for a quality boat televison? I am thinking of a 9" Panansonic or something along that line. I am wondering if 13" televisions have both AC/DC adaptors. Everyones input and suggestions are welcome! Go Lions!!!

Tried using my laptop - jury's out

I use my laptop for navigation and charting, so I thought it would make a good TV, too. If for no other reason, the small size of a laptop and the fact that it has a built-in DVD player. I bought an $80 TV tuner cable from Circuit city, and it really does work. However, most laptops don't have good speakers. That's my current challenge, volume. Paul

I have a Zenith and it works great.

Nittany: I have a Zenith 9" AC/DC. It has worked fine for several years. I think most of these small TV's do a good job. If you move up to a larger one you can get a VCR built in, but you should be aware of the battery drain if you are using the VCR without AC. Shop around and make sure that whatever you get can be stored easily when you are sailing. I would not depend on these 3M hold downs for sailing (they work, but they also fail).

We bought a dual voltage combination TV/VCR. I think it is a Samsung or some other discount variety form one of the mega discount places. It has worked fine thusfar. We have had it now for the 5th season. It is a little bit small at times. It think this is relative to your boat size and personal preferences. Likened to Paul's repsonse on his laptop, the 9" leaves some sound quality to be desired when your viewing it from a distance. happy tv hunting, Mike D

9"

I have a 9" TV/VCR that is AC/DC on my 23.5 and it has been onboard for 6 years. Never had a problem. Ran with one battery for 4 years and now have two batteries. I have also added a 12v DVD player and really enjoy the aspect of watching a movie and relaxing while onboard. In the Seattle area I can also put out my antenna and watch the local news and sports. I like the fact that both units are AC/DC so when shore power is plugged in I do not use the batteries.

Laptop/DVD/TV-Tuner

I used my laptop as well for Nav/Charts and it has a DVD player. I plug into the 12V socket and its great. I just ordered a TV tuner from ebay for $45.00 that plugs into the USB port. It should work fine. For enhanced sound, I ran a line out of my laptop into the AUX in on my Sony Xplod stereo. Great sound and I can use it on deck or in cabin. Nothing like outdoor movies! Ed

Smash Bang

I used a FUNAI (????) combo TV/VCR AC/DC set in my 18 wheeler for three or four years then moved it onto the boat. Still no problem. I bought it at a truck stop for about 275 but you can get them a lot cheaper at the discount houses. Buy the cheapest you can get... they're all the same inside... Ron/KA5HZV

A better idea

Get a Samsung Syncmaster 150MP flat panel from Office Depot and a DVD player from Farm and Fleet ($88). I got my 150MP for $450 with rebate. It is a flat panel so can be mounted or set anywhere, is a great TV tuner, is a computer monitor if you need it, and is 2" deep w/15" screen. Runs off of 12v (as does the DVD player) or shore power. Does not use lots of power since it is a LCD panel. The link below should work, otherwise search for 150MP and you will get lots of hits. Save that valuable space and weight. We love ours.

DVD Player

Got it locally in Olympia WA....It was on clearance and cost about 126.00. It is an APEX MD-100, I attached a link for it. The link lists it for $249.00. It is small enough to mount anywhere. I will post some pictures of where I mounted it on my 23.5

We are using a Samsung Syncmaster 150mp

We are using a Samsung Syncmaster 150mp monitor/tv with the tuner and speakers internal. The picture and sound are excellent. In addition a company called Ergotonics (they are on the web) sells a mount that allows the monitor to mount flush to any wall. A slight modification in the plug using parts that are available from Radio Shack allows this setup to be used from either AC or DC.

Mounts

Steve, Ran a search on Ergotronics and Ergotonics (your spelling) and did not find anything on the web. Could you let me know the correct web site? Also, when you said flush mount, did you mean against the wall or actually flush with the wall? Dan Jonas (S/V Feije II)

Samsung 171MP

I have installed a Samsung 171MP which has a S-video and digital input for HDTV. It is a little pricey but since I ripped out the port side cabinets and installed bookshelves for a home theater system with a Panasonic digital receiver,DVD/VCR combo, 5 speakers with 100W Woofer, and DirecTV receiver, I figured I needed a good a pretty good Monitor.

What TV Antenna is the best?

How about Antennas? Mast Mounted? What cable is used for low lose for runs of 75 to 100'? and is the powered antennas any better? Nonlinear, Hunter 33.5

I bought a Samsung 13" Combo for

$169.00 at a truck stop. A Driver had told me about them, and said he had priced them other places for up to $209 for the same unit. It works great and since we have cable at our marina, I only use the furnished rabbit ears on board at anchor (or a marina that does not have cable). It came with AC & DC attachments, too. Why I want one on board is for weather information, but I must admit that I enjoy it late at night when I am preparing to sleep, too.
