Purshased a H290 last summer. Reading about general maintenance. Manual states use only Teflon grease for the Edson steering components. Any reason why you can not use a quality lithium grease?

I guess I would ask why you would question the mfg. that states "use only Teflon grease". They must have had a reason and they are not telling you to purchase their product.

The problem with grease compatabilities is not the "grease" per se, but the carrier. Unless you can be sure that all the old grease has been completely cleaned out it can interact with the new and in effect be like having no grease at all. Also, depending on the materials of construction, you can definitely have electrochemical interactions between the grease components (lithium or zinc or other base metals) and what is being lubricated. I'd stick with the teflon base grease as it is an inert polymer, that won't interact chemically. I haven't researched the carrier, but why tempt fate. Like Steve says...Super Lube.
Thanks for the reply. I did buy Super lube from Edson. Need to get it into a grease fitting and can't find the applicator, unless I purchase a larger tube that will fit into a standard grease gun. Not a big deal just asking.

Steve: Thanks for the help. I just ordered the tube of Super Lube to fit in a grease gun for the zerk fitting. Problem solved.
