Okay guys - The coach top (sides) teak trim on my '86 hunter 31 was in need of replacing. I bought teak, made the trim and it looks great - IMHO. I pre-drilled and countersunk about every 2 feet. What's the opinion of the adhesive to use to secure the entire strip to the gelcoat? I was thinking of 4200 - but I have alot of silicon caulk and "lifecaulk" on hand. Any advice welcome. By the way, last year I paid $22 a bf. for teak. This year it was $40 a BF., - and the lumber yard made me buy two to three as much as needed. He said he was quite reluctant to even sell teak anymore 'cause of the price. How 'bout dat?

Do you want to stick it to the gel coat

Are you wanting to make it stuck to the gelcoat, and therefore becoming part of the boat, or just seal it from leaking. Hell, if you want to really adhere it to the boat, put some 5200 on it. I think all you want to do is to seal it up so it doesn't leak. I would use the life caulk for that application, and would not use silicone at all.

?

If your are screwing the wood down, all you really need is something to keep moisture out of the screw holes and silicone or Life Caulk/Seal would be fine for that. It is probably unnecessary to bond the wood to the cabin top.

If the trim pieces are going to be under load, then some 4200 may be a good idea.
