I would like to do some wood boat projects. Does anyone know how to get teak plywood reasonably. The only sources I find are in Marathon FL, or North Carolina. Both long distance trips, and the shipping on a full sheet is over $300.

Ideas please??

Consider going in a different direction. Look at PlasTEAK which is a synthetic alternative.
Also have a version for topside on your boat. Comes in six foot wide by the foot @ $50/running foot.

That would be OK for floors. But I want to replace/build cabinets. This would not be a solution for that I don't think.

welcome to boat carpentry....you may be able to get some from a local yard or piggyback on his shipping if you can coordinate orders. Very few wholesalers will sell to small users.

There are very few "small" shops left for custom woods anymore due to the Fed Regs about "importing" fancy woods. Re: Gibson Guitar and the president/DOJ.

Most, if not all, current (last 10-15 years thru now) boat cabinetry is teak veneer or similar veneer stained to "look" like teak. Teak solids and true marine grade teak ply are very expensive. Very. If you can find it.

Most marine ply can be teak one side, or both sides, or teak holly veneer. The interior ply is almost always some other marine exotic (cheaper, sustainable, easier to work, etc)

You can find teak plywood, and you can find reasonably priced plywood, but I'm afraid you aren't going to find any reasonably priced teak plywood.

If you shop aggressively on Amazon you can find some good deals on 4x8 sheets of teak veneer. I paid less than $60 delivered for the last sheet I bought earlier this year. It comes rolled up in a tube. Pick up a sheet locally of a good marine grade plywood, and then veneer it yourself with some FSV adhesive.

If you were anywhere close to Pensacola, I could make you a good deal on a half-sheet of 1/2" double sided teak veneer plywood, 3/4 of a bottle of FSV, and a half sheet of teak veneer. I have leftovers from the interior refit I did last winter.

Also, you may want to consider buying a veneer of teak to put over some good marine plywood. I covered a small bulkhead this way (rather, i payed someone to do it) after gouging it when removing a stove. Veneer can be shipped relatively inexpensively.

Wow,

You guys are the best. Wouldn't have even thought of buying just the veneer. All great information.

If Marine Connection doesn't have it, There's a lumberyard in Vero Beach that does. It's called Sturgis Lumber. I'm not sure on their pricing, but I know they have it.
