I've asked before about the amount of Teak on board some of your boats, I've decided to install a Teak & Holly sole over the current "plain jane" fiberglass floor ( can't bring myself to call the fiberglass a sole, since it doesn't) I've contacted a few web sites which specialize in marine woods, with no luck. which brings me back home. does anyone have any ideas on the best method to do this? I was thinking of buying a sheet (4' x 8' x 1/4") of Teak & Holly plywood, making a pattern out of construction paper and cutting it out of the sheet (sound good so far?) and as far as actual installiation ? maybe a good quality marine construction adhisive ? screws ? has anyone done this themselves? look forward to any suggestions thanks Rich J

teak and holly folly

almost all the teak and holly floorboards on my 35 are loose fitting pieces and removable. this is bad in event of a knockdown or capsize but convenient for bilge access, mast step wiring, etc. the first thing most owners do to protect their teak and holly soles is to cover them with throw rugs to protect them. so why bother? also they are all a veneer plywood. My next project will be to sand them and refinish them then epoxy coat the undersides and edges to make them waterproof. don't screw them down unless you know what you are screwing into and make sure you use inserts. do not ever screw directly into glass reinforced plastic. it does not have appropriate properties for this.
