Gday guys. Doing the final touches on the reno of our '81 C22. Complete redo of topsides, new paint on deck and hull, finished re-upholstering the cabin and cockpit cushions. Got crazy (~ier) and pulled the topsides teak for strip down and and new Cetol application so everything looks like new. BUT the teak coamings in the cockpit are not look too flash. One almost disintergrated upon removal, the other I have restored pretty well (at least I think so). I may be able to restore it but in reality I think it's a big ask.

So to the question... does anyone know where I can get another set. I believe they are a standard size. Perhaps someone is parking out a boat or knows of someone, or if there is a company that sells them. CD has only thecwhite vinyl. Good price but I am on a mission to have this boat back tonits classic trim so teak preferred. 1 would be ok but 2 better so the trim matches.

Appreciate any advice.

Milton,

Years ago on my 1980 C-22, the teak cockpit coamings were in pretty bad condition. I saturated them with WEST epoxy, sanded them smooth, I might have repeated the saturation again, (been a long time), then sanded them smooth and applied several coats of a good spar varnish to inhibit the UV from attacking the epoxy. They looked beautiful for years, and every couple years a light sanding and a couple fresh coats of varnish keep them looking nice.

Cheers Don. That sounds like a great plan, if I can re-assemble the starboard coaming from its many current pieces. Port side would be an ideal candidate for your technique as it is now glued back together and looks almost new. Will give your idea a shot if I can get the Starboard coaming to any appreciable state.

Milton,

Try placing the bad one back together on wax paper, then do the epoxy thing, even using the epoxy to glue it back together. The epoxy won't stick to the wax paper. Once it cures, just peal it away. Then you can continue the repairs and coatings.

Take some before and after photos, we LOVE photos!

I have some moulding or coamings around some storage compartments on my c25. When I removed them to refinish them the y practically fell apart. I repaired and reglued them with gorrila glue and filled in a few pits and voids with some weatherproof wood filler. I then sanded them and reapplied some good quality teak oil and then varnished them. They look great and are strong.

If you can't repair it, make s new one. Google hardwoods and find a supplier in your area that has teak. Woodsource and a couple other chains should be near you. Get a piece big enough and pattern from the good one you have. Teak is beaucoup expensive but probably cheaper than buying a pre made one if such a thing even exists.

I think they did discontinue those items, I may be the guy who bought the last 2 they had in stock because I remember seeing the red print when I ordered about the coming in-availability of them. I lightly sanded mine down and then coated them all around with about 7 coats of Cetol before installing on the boat. After that, I added some snaps and Sunbrella covers to keep wasps and water out of the compartments and my teak out of the sun.

Cheers guys. CD has discontinued the teak coaming trims. The factory that made them, (out of a single solid piece of teak !!) went bust (i wonder why). CD now only offers the vinyl version. Not my cup of tea as I want this boat to be looking like the classic she is. So, I have taken y'all's advice and recontructing the old ones. Thus far, I have pieced the bits back together with wood glue for now, then sanded them smooth. Waiting on delivery of my WM epoxy resin then will soak in resin and resin then finish with cetol. Amazed how well they have come along so far, given their state when I pulled them off. Pics of progress attached, more to come. Appreciate the tips guys !

Cheers

Milton
