Hi all,

I have a Tasco binocular set and haven’t used them in a while. I cannot move the focus wheel in the center and was thinking to lube it with 3&1 oil before I loosen the set screws. Anyone else have this happen?

I guess it depends upon how frozen up it is. Mine gets stiff sometimes and so a bit of lubrication helps. But if yours is actually frozen, you might not have the same success. I also don't use 3 in 1 oil. I have microscope grease I use - bloody expensive stuff that is - I wouldn't go out and buy it just for this. I have it lying around for other reasons so that's what I use...

For around $200 there is the German made auto-focus Steiner, solid build & works very well on a moving sea. I bought one for my father in law to watch his flock of sheep in Albania, he often drops things and himself because of his penchant for moonshine.

To me, binocs are one of the safety/sailing items that I'll spare no expense on.
