Anyone out there have a Tartan 37 manual? If so, does it have specifications/dimensions for a storage cradle? For that matter, what are the general requirements of a cradle for a 37' boat? Since most of the weight is supported through the keel, how critical is the position of the pads on the hull anyway? My understanding is that the role of the pads is only to keep the hull upright, such that it's weight is directed down through the keel.

Check out the TONE website.

There are other T37 owners out there who may have a copy of the manual you seek. http://tone.tartanowners.org/home.htm I am not sure of the weight of your T37 but our T27 took rather well to a used cradle that we got for @ $500. I would suggest getting a cradle that comes apart into its component pieces as it will be easier to transport and store. Our cradle is a massive one piece (welded) frame that requires 4 guys to haul it. The legs and poppits can come off but the weight is in the main rectangular frame. I think that your assessment of how the cradle works is spot on. I am not sure I would build a cradle out of wood for either of our boats as they way several to many tons. I bet you can find a used one for $300 - $600. Good luck.

T37 cradle

Thanks CalebD. I thought I had searched that site through LETS, but didn't find anything. They have a hull plan with scale bar that should allow reasonable pad spacing fore and aft. By the way, the T37 has a displacement of 15500. What percentage of cradles do you suppose are currently supporting boats that they were specifically designed to hold? I know Catalina gave cradle specs for my C27.

The cradle we bought was used by a similar sized

boat so I did not worry about it much. Our T27 weighs 7200 #s or about half the weight of your boat. At boatyards they usually use an extra pair or two (they used 2 pairs for our boat) of jack stands for the larger sailboats which might correspond to a longer cradle with more legs in your case. All of this goes to confirm your theory that the boat is mostly resting on the keel and the jack stands just hold it upright. I could see using jack stands but our club does only allows cradles for members boats. Mostly sailboats 32' or less. The cost of a cradle for your boat might very well be more than the $500 I suggested. Good luck.
