Hi all,

I have a 1979 tartan 33. Forward hatch is great - a massive thing by bowmar that has only one problem; it leaks around the hatch dog (well one of them):

Any idea how to disassemble or fix? there are a couple of drift pins on the lower area that dead end inside the dog and on top the knurled area has what looks like a hole with a screw but its got no head I can turn...

Thanks!

This got no replies so I'll try... I know nothing specific about the hatch or dogs. However, if you can get it apart or any access, my recommendation to stop the leak is some plumbers silicone grease. That should lubricate, seal from rain, and not attack metal or any plastics that might be part of the dog or hatch. Note a frequent comment on these forums - generally keep any silicone or silicone caulk away from your boat!

Those look like Bowmar hatches. All dogs on ours are held on with small s/s pins. They are split and hollow like a tiny tp tube cut lengthwise with scissors. Other than the obvious problem of salt, s/s and aluminum, they should driven gently out one side or the other, no matter. Put them back with a never seize product that is copper colored, for aluminum.
While you are at it, if any of the bolts holding the arms on still move, take them out, clean them up and use the same antiseize product on every single one you can, before they are welded in place!
