Tartan 28 1985 opinions wanted

Lets assume excelent condition and go from there. I've sailed on her once and know the maticulous and maintainance experienced owner.
I'm told the keel stub is solid glass and no wood in the mast step.
The hull is cored forward in the bow above the waterline which I'm OK with but bears careful checking.
Stantion bases need backing where they penetrate the deck.

I'd love to know anything from those who know.

I'll be pre-surveying her soon.

I sail on a friend's Tartan 28 ( 1986 model ). The boat sails very well, fast, easy to maneuver and well balanced. The accomodations are good for 2-3 people. The galley is well laid out and has everything needed.

Seriously looked at a T-28. Very nice S&S design. I really liked the boat. Wife and surveyoror nixed it. From memory, main cabin is very dark. Port settee is too small for a human. Keel stepped mast is in the head making it a bit cramped. No anchor locker (could be wrong here). Surveyor nixed it because of wetness problems in deck and hull.

Raced on one once. Pretty good all around sailing boat although the 2 spreader rig is a little thin for any offshore work.

RobG- You might look for a Tartan 3000, Sabre 28, C&C 29-II. Similar boats with a little better design. By all means get a good buyers surveyor. Good luck.
