Anyone have a solution for getting tar off a fiberglass non-skid deck. The wife drops the dock lines onto the poles and get tar everywhere.

Deck cleaning

Carb cleaner and a nail brush, go slow, little spot at a time, and finish with an old towel.

Kerosene

Used to belong to a rowing club about a century ago. That was before people paid attention to things such as ships pumping out bilges in harbors. We used kereosene to remove tar from the rowing shells. Also use it to clean tar picked up from the beaches. You might want to test on gel coat first but it is good at remving tar.

Dear Heloise

I knew a kindergarden teacher who cleaned up crayon marks with vegetable oil; I think the idea is that one oily substance can help dissolve and remove another oily substance better than attacking it with solvents (as long as the new agent doesn't stain the nonskid). Glad to hear about WD-40.

Won't WD-40 leave its own stain? There are some controactors cleaners that I have used for removing glue and other sticky stuff from the interior gelcoat. Look at Home Depot, etc. for Contractors Solvant. It is orange, and comes in spray bottle.
